Richt tired of the same old questions

Georgia coach Mark Richt has apparently heard enough questions about his team's offensive struggles thus far in the 2004 season. For a team that is 3-0 and ranked No. 3 in the nation, it is easy to see why there would be so much attention on every aspect of the team, but it all depends on who is asking the question.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist/humorist Jeff Schultz found out the hard way on Tuesday that Richt does not want to be the subject of one of Schultz's hard-hitting and sarcastic stories.

Schultz asked Richt if, since he was a former offensive coordinator, he took it personally that the Bulldogs offense had struggled at times. Richt, stone faced, replied: "I thought I answered that question already, but I will answer it again for you if it will make you feel better."

The quote does not do justice to the tension that entered the air of the press conference for the first time in the Mark Richt era.

"I am frustrated," Richt continued. "You want to just write it down and make it the headline? That will be fine with me."

Schultz interrupted that he had not yet written any story to which Richt replied: "You can ask for the headline if you like."

As quick as it started it was over and Richt said, "Anyone else?"
