5 Young Guns Coming to Town

While Georgia's matchup with Clemson promises to be a star-studded affair of 2015 prospects, the Bulldogs will also be looking well beyond their current recruiting class..

Radi Nabulsi brought you a preview of freshman sensation Tyreke Johnson earlier this week, and he’s only one of the the future talents who will be taking in Saturday’s game.

Today, we break down some of the top young prospects who will be in attendance, discuss their upside, and take a quick look into their standing with Bulldogs.

Riverdale, Ga.

Okonya put on two fine performances for coaches this summer, at 7-on-7s and Dawg Night.  The showcases demonstrated his tremendous burst off the line and coachability, as Okonya listened closely to defensive line coach Tracy Rocker and corrected missteps from earlier reps.  The Riverdale product is also a giant in the classroom, with a high GPA and AP level course work.  His smarts are a major selling point for the likes of Duke and Clemson, but this will be his third visit to see Georgia in as many months, indicating that he’s more than a little interested in what they offer.

Elbert County

Elberton, Ga.

Hardman is an electric athlete, capable of making plays across the field.  He comes equipped with strong coverage skills and tremendous speed.  Jeremy Pruitt is already a big fan of Hardman’s skills, as the junior has made mention of their relationship in the past.  South Carolina and Florida have been courting Hardman, so this visit is crucial for Georgia -- especially considering that he was unable to make a scheduled visit to Dawg Night.  Hardman projects as a cornerback at the next level, but don’t be surprised if he gets looks at receiver as well.

Liberty County

Riceboro, Ga.

Already one of the most coveted sophomores in the nation, LeCounte’s athleticism is hard to ignore.  His coverage is smothering. He's a star on the basketball court as well and brings physical hardwood moves to the field in order to disrupt plays.  Ohio State is already pining over LeCounte, but he’s big on in-state pride.  Young though he may be, the Georgia staff knows this recruit is in line to be one of the highest rated prospects of the 2017 cycle. Expect an all out pursuit for his services. UGA appears to be in a solid position early, but LeCounte is going to have options.

Peachtree Ridge

Suwanee, Ga.

Given his size, it’s hard to believe that Gibbs is only a sophomore.  Though he’s listed at safety, it’s his work on the offensive side of the ball that has coaches across the nation taking notice.  Gibbs can out-athlete most competition he faces, allowing him to make tough grabs and take contact with ease.  His defensive skills are not to be ignored, however.  His speed and physicality are already evident at his young age and with three more full high school seasons of growth left, Gibbs is going to find himself atop many wish lists. Georgia is already putting time in his recruitment.

Archer

Lawrenceville, Ga.

"Big things/small packages" is the phrase made to describe Williams.  While he may only be 5’8", Williams doesn't shy from going against larger players and uses his lightning quick speed to break the game open for his Archer squad.  Pruitt and the Bulldogs have been long familiar with Williams and he is a fan of what the they have to offer.  His Dawg Night performance impressed many.  With a solid sophomore campaign, look for Williams to pick up his Georgia offer to go along with those he currently holds from the likes of Clemson, Michigan, and Georgia Tech.
