Monroe chooses Vanderbilt

The Vanderbilt Commodores landed their newest commitment from Fort Bend Bush (Tx) athlete Ronald Monroe on Tuesday evening.

The 6-foot-4, 188-pound prospect chose the Commodores over San Jose State, TCU, and Utah State.

The former Washington State commit, picked up late offers from TCU and Vanderbilt. Taking an official visit to Vanderbilt this past weekend.

"As soon as I got off the plane in Nashville, the city was awesome. The people were great, opening up their arms. The whole coaching staff, they were just welcoming and everything like that. The players were doing the same thing. I felt like I was at home," explained Monroe in talking about his official visit to Vanderbilt this past weekend with CSN Houston.

A top-notch education and the opportunity to play in one of the nation's toughest conferences were the key ingredients in his decision making process.

Monroe saw his recruiting heat up after an outstanding senior season at quarterback that saw him throw for 3,312 yards and 41 touchdowns against only five interceptions. He also rushed for 819 yards and 14 touchdowns.

For Vanderbilt, the versatile athlete is expected to help out at either quarterback or wide receiver.

"Really, to me, it doesn't matter," Monroe said. "I just really want to be able to get in the SEC and showcase my talents wherever it is. We talked about playing quarterback or receiver, so really it's just wait until I get to Nashville and seeing where it is."

"I'm willing to do whatever it is to help the team win," he added.
