Elbert decides the time is right, commits to A&M
Trevor Elbert ended speculation and committed to the Aggies. The six foot, six inch, 296-pound offensive tackle has been flirting with a commitment for a while, but wanted to visit Alabama first. He didn't even make it home before deciding the trip to Tuscaloosa wasn't needed after all.A few hours after Texas A&M's junior day, Rockwall-Heath 2015 offensive tackle
"On my way home my family and I decided it was time for me to commit," said Elbert. "I've known for a long time I was going to go to A&M, but just wanted to make sure."
Elbert's first call was to Texas A&M wide receiver coach and Dallas area recruiter David Beaty. After Beaty, Elbert called head coach Kevin Sumlin. Both the coaches were very excited with Elbert's commitment.
"Coach Beaty was on his way home when I decided to commit and said he nearly wrecked his car from the excitement," he said. "Coach Sumlin was fired about my commitment to A&M as well."
One factor in Elbert's committing was the recruiting job done by Gladewater defensive tackle Daylon Mack, who pushed hard for Elbert to commit to A&M today.
"Daylon let me join his Fab Five group as long as I committed to A&M," he said. "He was pushing hard for me to commit to A&M all day today and was in everybody's ear to commit."
Elbert will now work on getting two other 2015 prospects he got a chance to meet at the junior day to join him at A&M. Elbert believes that, in the end, both will be Aggies.
"I am going to get Larry Pryor and Malik Jefferson to commit to Texas A&M," said Elbert. "I think I can help get them to A&M."
As far as the Alabama visit goes, Elbert now has that off the table and is done with visits.
"I'm no longer going to Alabama or anywhere else for visits," said Elbert. "My recruiting is done and I'm happy to be an Aggie."
Elbert is ranked number 20 overall at his position and is a member of the Rivals250 group.
