Defensive starter suspended
Sophomore safety Josh Harvey-Clemons has been suspended for the Aug. 31 season-opener at Clemson, Georgia head coach Mark Richt announced Tuesday in Destin, Fla., site of the SEC Meetings.
He declined further comment.
In an email to beat writers, UGA officials said Harvey-Clemons was suspended for a violation of team rules after the Atlanta-Constitution reported earlier today that Harvey-Clemons was involved in an incident involving the use of marijuana back on May 15.
Former Bulldog Ty Flournoy-Smith was with Harvey-Clemons in a Georgia dorm room after a residence hall assistant noticed the smell of marijuana emanating from the other side of the door.
Police searched the residence and found no marijuana, although the paper said the both players admitted they had smoked a marijuana cigarette.
Harvey-Clemons was listed as the Bulldogs' starter at strong safety at the conclusion of spring drills.
