Budzien nabs B1G award

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior placekicker Jeff Budzien was recognized as the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week Monday after kicking five field goals in Northwestern's 22-13 win over Boston College on Saturday.

Budzien connecte on field goal attempts of 42, 41, 29, 20 and 19 yards to score the first 15 points of the game for the Wildcats, tying the NU school record for field goals in a single game in the process.

The junior from Hartland, Wis., is tied for first in the country with eight made field goals this season and is the only FBS kicker to be perfect at 8-for-8 on the year. He also bests all Big Ten kickers with 11.0 points per game.

Previously this year, Budzien provided the game-winning points in a pair of narrow Northwestern victories, first kicking the go-ahead extra point in a 42-41 win at Syracuse before breaking a 13-13 tie against Vanderbilt by booting a field goal with 2:01 to go in the game.

Budzien is NU's second Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week this season, joining return specialist Venric Mark in week one.

Undefeated Northwestern (3-0) closes its nonconference schedule this weekend when it hosts FCS opponent South Dakota at Ryan Field (2:30 p.m. CT, BTN).
