Walker picks Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt added yet another play-maker to its 2013 recruiting class on Wednesday with the commitment of Orlando (Fla.) receiver Dominic Walker. The high three-star prospect announced his decision live through the Orlando Sentinel and confirmed his choice with VandySports.com.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound pass catcher was considered a Vanderbilt lean since April following a unofficial visit to the Nashville-based school.

"I'll be taking my talents to Vanderbilt," Walker announced live. "What I like about Vanderbilt is the atmosphere and the coaching staff up there as well. When I went up there in April, I felt needed. They send me a lot of mail, big stacks. I get more mail than my mom.

"I know that I'm going to go up there and make a lot of plays and try to help them win a SEC championship."

He chose Vanderbilt from a final three that also included Florida State and Texas A&M.

A skilled receiver with good quickness and big, reliable hands, Walker was one of Florida's most recruited receivers this spring. The Maynard Evans High star collected over 25 scholarship offers overall, including offers from such schools as Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Penn State, South Carolina, USF, UCF, Tennessee, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

Ranked 52nd among wide receivers by Rivals.com, Walker caught 36 passes for 628 touchdowns and seven touchdowns during the Trojans turnaround season that saw Evans go from 1-8 in 2010, to 10-2 in 2011.

"My strengths are going up to catch the ball, and attacking the ball," Walker said. "Being physical while snatching the ball in the air, and trying to stay balanced in my routes. I get in and out of my breaks as well, and have good speed."

Walker has been clocked at running a 4.57 in the forty-yard dash this summer and has posted a 4.12 shuttle. He also owns personal bests of 23.8 in the 200 meter dash, and 49.7 in the 400 meter dash.

Walker also possesses a 33-inch vertical, benches 250 pounds, and squats nearly 400.

He was named the Receiver MVP at the Orlando NUC five star showcase this March. Walker was also named to the Orlando NIKE All-Combine team that same month.

He becomes the fourth projected receiver prospect to commit to the Commodores joining Rivals250 prospect Carlos Burse and Memphis three-star receivers Gerald Perry and Latevius Rayford.

Vanderbilt now has 15 public commitments for the 2013 class. With Walker's commitment, the class now ranks 15th overall according to Rivals.com.
