Eagles targeting game breaking receiver
Tyler Boyd is up to five verbal offers and he appears to be keeping an open mind. He's trying to hit the road as much as possible to gather information on the schools recruiting him.
Over the weekend the 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver from Clairton (Pa.) visited a Big East school that will be heading to the Big XII shortly.
"I went to West Virginia (on Saturday) and I liked it up there. It was pretty cool. I talked to the head coach and Coach Dunlap ... most all of them, really."
West Virginia is not one of the schools that has offered Boyd. Akron, Arizona, BC, Pitt and Virginia Tech have, however.
"I think they're going to offer me, though," he said of the Mountaineers. "They're just going to wait and see how things are going. They did say they would like for me to be a part of their team for four or five years so I took that to mean they want me."
Boyd was supposed to go to Ohio State on Sunday but he was feeling under the weather. He will try to attend the next junior day in Columbus.
He's planning to attend Penn State's junior day on February 18. Boyd told EagleAction.com he doesn't have any favorites.
Most schools are recruiting Boyd as a wide receiver, though he had to play running back as a junior. Clairton's starting back went down with a torn ACL and Boyd was a stellar replacement, running for 2,400 yards with 300 receiving yards and a total of 48 offensive touchdowns. He also intercepted several passes on defense.
Are the Eagles a factor in Boyd's recruitment?
"Yeah, I talk to them here and there on e-mail," he said. "They come up to our school for different reasons to stay up on things.
"I know they send guys to the NFL, like that quarterback (Matt Ryan). They told me they would love to have me up there as a wide receiver, as a big-time play making wide out that can make it to the league with them."
