Report: Commodores land big prize
Kevin McCoy.This morning, the saying "Good things come to those that wait," might apply for Vanderbilt. Just two days before the start of National Signing Day, the Commodores secured a commitment from one of their most important recruiting targets: Tampa area offensive tackle prospect
The Tampa Bay Times broke the story on Monday morning with Armwood head coach Sean Callahan confirming McCoy's decision with Joey Knight. VandySports.com has been able to further confirm the news with sources close to the situation.
McCoy took an official visit to Vanderbilt over the weekend and ultimately chose the Commodores over Central Florida. He also received offers from the likes of Auburn, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Louisville and South Florida.
A long-standing target for Vanderbilt, McCoy gives the Commodores a big projectable tackle prospect that drips with tremendous upside and comes from a program used to winning.
In 2011, McCoy anchored a offense that generated nearly 5,000 total yards and over 3,000 yards rushing. The big man produced several pancake and knock down blocks and the Armwood Hawks went 15-0 and captured the Class 6A State Championship. He was named first team Class 6A All-State for his play as well as all-county and all-region.
Ranked 37th among all offensive tackle prospects according to Rivals.com, McCoy completes a offensive line class that goes down as the best in modern Vanderbilt recruiting history.
