Thornton to have surgery
The thought of losing his leading rebounder for any stretch isn't a comforting thought to Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox.
Unfortunately, that will apparently be the case after the sophomore forward Marcus Thornton will undergo exploratory knee surgery Tuesday afternoon.
Fox made the announcement Monday.
Thornton injured his knee in the first half of Georgia's 64-50 win over Furman. He will undergo the surgery at St. Mary's hospital in Athens.
Doctors will make a determination on Thornton's recovery time after the surgery.
Thornton leads Georgia in rebounding at 5.8 rebounds per game. He also averages 2.8 points per contest and has started nine of the Bulldogs' 12 games.
The Bulldogs entertain Winthrop Tuesday at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the non-conference portion of their schedule Friday against Delaware State.
