Carlwell denied a sixth year

After months and months of waiting, San Diego state finally got an answer from the NCAA on Thursday.

And it certainly wasn't worth the wait for the Aztecs.

The NCAA announced SDSU center Brian Carlwell will not get a sixth year of eligibility to play for the Aztecs this season.

"I was hurt when I found out I wasn't going to be able to come back," Carlwell said in statement released by the school. "My time at San Diego State was amazing. I couldn't ask for a better three years of my life. I was a part of an amazing team. We made history at San Diego State and our legacy will forever live and that is something I am really proud of."

Carlwell transferred to SDSU from Illinois in 2008, and after sitting out the 2008-09 season because of NCAA rules, he helped the Aztecs to two NCAA Tournament runs these past two seasons.

In his career with the Aztecs, he won 59 games and averaged 4.2 points per game.

The Aztecs have one scholarship available now for the 2011-12 team. If guard Devon Bookert does not accept SDSU's offer, the Aztecs will likely save the schollie for 2012's deep class.
