2010 All-District 15-4A

Arguably the state's toughest 4A district with tri-champions who did well in the state playoffs, 15-4A post-season honores were led by West Mesquite quarterback Trevone Boykin as the MVP after leading the team to a 10-3 record and a trip to the regional semifinals.

A TCU commit, Boykin threw for 2,930 yards and 28 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,799 yards with 30 TDs.

Silas Firstly was named as the Defensive MVP. Firstly was a big part of the reason that the Pirates made school history in advancing to the state semifinals for the first time in history before falling to Aledo last week, 29-27.
He's a returning junior along with all-district honoreesCraig
Suits and Chase Graham. Poteet has talented junior Steven Hicks, who could be the Pirates' quarterback next season or remain a focal point at receiver or running back.

Quarterback Beau Nowell was selected to the first team after throwing for 3,253 yards and 33 touchdowns compared with only eight interceptions. Nowell, the son of former Poteet baseball coach Ted Nowell missed most of his junior season with a knee injury after a strong start. Nowell, whose older brother Teddy Nowell pitches at TCU, likely will be a top collegiate baseball prospect as a hitter/pitcher after recovering from a severe ankle injury in his final game.

As good as Nowell's regular season was, he left a lasting memory in the playoffs. Not only did he lead the Pirates to four postseason victories, he returned from a serious ankle sprain suffered in the first half against Aledo and nearly led Poteet to an upset victory over the state's top-ranked team.

Corsicana's Cameron Washington, who became the Tigers' feature back after original starter Johnathan Anderson was lost before the season began, finished with 1,539 yards on the ground and 10 scores with an average of nearly eight yards per carry. Corsicana earned its share of the title with talented brothers Thomas McDonald and junior Tevin McDonald.

The most highly rated player in future years could be Newcomer of the Year _ Lancaster freshman Nick Harvey who is a major college prospect at defensive back but who filled in as a speedy, athletic quarterback when injuries depleted the position. Harvey's brother Phillip Harvey plays at Northwestern State, but the younger Harvey, often wearing an Oklahoma sweatshirt to school, is likely to be top prospect for 2014.

Lancaster is loaded with underclass talent along with Harvey 6-0, 175), reminiscent of a young DB who can play WR or QB _ Euless Trinity star Brandon Carter.

Among the top prospective juniors for the Class of 2012 is Lancaster lineman Chris Thomas (6-5, 320) and receiver LaDarius Newbold (6-0, 170) and sophomore cornerback Dakota Austin, a terrific cover corner, and big-play running back Joseph Paden (5-10, 180, who had 855 yards in 56 carries.

Ennis coach Sam Harrell has formally resigned after taking a year off to try to recuperate from health issues. The Lions have two of the best players to rebuild with super sophs Sam Walker and Malik Jenkins, who can play defensive backs or move to key offensive positions.
