Power rankings: More good news for Patterson

Power Rankings: QB | RB | WR | TE | OL | DL | LB | DB | ST
Head coach | Offensive coach | Defensive coach

TCU hasn't quite moved to the top of the BCS standings, but the Horned Frogs' perfect regular season already has its coach atop the Rivals.com College Football Power Rankings.

The Horned Frogs' 66-17 rout of New Mexico on Saturday completed TCU's second consecutive unbeaten regular season and made Patterson the No. 1 coach in the power rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position.

Patterson took over the top spot from Boise State's Chris Petersen, whose team's 34-game winning streak ended Friday with a 34-31 overtime loss at Nevada.

"Honestly, I feel bad for Boise State," Patterson told reporters after the New Mexico game. "I know how hard they've worked to get where they're at. We've been down the same road."

TCU's victory over New Mexico locked up a BCS bid, likely in the Rose Bowl. Ranked third in the BCS standings, the Horned Frogs could reach the BCS title game if Oregon loses at Oregon State or Auburn falls to South Carolina in the SEC championship game this weekend.

Patterson's surge represented the only change atop the power rankings this week.

Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton, Oregon running back LaMichael James, Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, Missouri tight end Michael Egnew, Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi, Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley, Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly, LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, Oregon punt returner Cliff Harris, Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Heacock remained atop their respective positions.

The power rankings measure overall career performances as well as a player or coach' most recent results. The rating of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how he fared the previous week. Our coordinator rankings exclude coordinators who don't call their own plays or signals.
