Browning is offensive leader

ULM picked up their second close win of the 2010 season on Saturday with a 20-17 Sun Belt conference win over Florida Atlantic. The win continued the trend in the young, six game, series that has seen the margin of victory just 3.2 points per game.

The key to the break out offensive performance is due to the continued maturity and outstanding play of redshirt freshman Kolton Browning.

"He continues to mature and get better," Head Coach Todd Berry said following the game. "He's a great competitor and has some great intangibles."

Late in the FAU game, Browning was solid in the final drive to seal the come from behind win. In the drive, he was 6-10 including the crucial two-point conversion, giving the Warhawks a three point lead.

"We came out and we wanted to go (to our) two minute (offense) so our offense took the ball down the field," he said. "We came in with a good game plan and they got a little tired at the end of the game which helped us out. Things open up and people make better plays on offense because people on defense were tired. Coach shocked us by calling a run play at the end but it worked and it ended up working for us."

Browning's most recent performance for 282 yards set a new career high and also continued his streak of four consecutive games of 200 plus yards passing. In addition to these already standout accomplishments, Browning's passing yardage was the most for a ULM quarterback since joining the Sun Belt conference in 2001.

All of these recent accomplishments for the Mabank, Texas native have Warhawk fans excited to see Browning begin to be mentioned in the same breathe as Steven Jyles, the school's all-time career passing leader. Browning became the first since Jyles to throw for over two hundred yards in four straight games.
