Pitt. Central Catholic rolls over Akron Buchtel

When Pittsburgh Central Catholic graduate Andrew Taglianetti visited his alma mater in between practice sessions with his University of Pittsburgh teammate, he spoke about the importance of special teams.

He paid special attention to the special teams performance of his younger brother, Louis, a junior on the 2010 Central Catholic squad.

Louis must have been listening.

The younger Taglianetti blocked two punts to, with the first leading to an 11-yard Damion Jones-Moore touchdown run, as Central Catholic defeated Akron Buchtel 35-6 in the second game of the Rally at the Wolvarena. The second blocked punt bounded into the end zone, where Brandon Farrell pounced on it for a touchdown.

"(Andrew) actually yelled at his little brother to pick it up on special teams," Central Catholic head coach Terry Totten said. "It was the only way we could open this game up."

"He always pushes for special teams and I know he cares about it," Louis Taglianetti said. "He talked about how special teams can change a whole game, it's still a third of the game.

Jones-Moore rushed for 122 yards on 19 carries and put up two touchdowns as Central Catholic rushed for over 250 yards. That included several key runs during a 14-play, 7:49 long drive that opened the game up for Central Catholic. Jones-Moore was joined by freshman Luigi Lista-Branza in the backfield on that drive as the two carried the Vikings downfield.

"He's been with the varsity all summer, and we did not hesitate to play him. He scrimmaged against a good McKeesport team and a good Perry team," Totten said. "He's a nice change of pace, more of a downhill guy where obviously Damion has more of the speed to go outside."

Akron Buchtel will play St. Vincent-St. Mary next week, while Central Catholic will travel to Bethel Park.
