Thompkins leads Dawgs to victory

The Georgia Bulldogs basketball team defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls 77 to 60 on Wednesday, propelling their record to 6-4 and giving Georgia its second consecutive victory. The loss dropped the Owls to 5-6 on the season.

"We had one goal tonight, and that was to win," said Georgia head coach Mark Fox. "I wasn't real pleased with how we started the game, but we came off with the big win."

Georgia's victorious effort was lead by sophomore forward Trey Thompkins, who scored a career high 35 points while grabbing 15 rebounds. Thompkins became the first Georgia player to score 35 points in a game in nearly two decades, as the feat was last accomplished by Bulldog great Litterial Green on February 12th, 1991, against the Florida Gators. Thompkins' 15 rebounds were also a career high.

"Trey's numbers were very good," said Fox. "I said to my assistants that Trey should get 40 points and I think he should have gotten 40, to be honest with you. He certainly carried us at certain points during the game."

As impressive as Thompkins' statistics were, the Bulldog victory was not a solo effort. He was assisted by ten other players in the scoring column, most notably sophomore point guard Dustin Ware, who contributed 12 points. Sophomore guard Travis Leslie added four points and six rebounds, while senior center Albert Jackson added six points and seven boards. Redshirt freshman guard Ebuka Anyaorah saw 19 meaningful minutes, and scored four points to go along with two rebounds and three assists. Shavar Richardson and Raymond Taylor shared the evening's scoring lead for the Owls, each contributing with 12 points apiece.

Georgia will take a weeklong hiatus from competition for the winter holiday, and return to face the Pepperdine Waves on December 30th at 7 PM at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. The game can be seen live on georgiadogs.com and heard on the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network.
