KCAC FB week in review

Ottawa University 49 vs. Friends University 42
Ottawa University, ranked number six in the NAIA defeated the 13th ranked Friends University Falcons 49-42 on Saturday afternoon at Adair Austin Stadium in Wichita, Kan. The win allowed Ottawa University to clinch its first 10-0 season.

It also guarantees the Braves a spot at the NAIA Football Championship Series for the first time since 2003. The game proved to have plenty of offense as each team racked up over 400 yards of total offense. Ethan Haller continued his outstanding season at quarterback for the Braves as he finished the day with 423 yards and four touchdowns on 19-of-25 passes. Haller's counterpart, Tim Rozzell, of Friends University finished the day with 345 yards and three scores on 30-of-51 passing.

The Falcons kept the Braves in check on the ground allowing a net total of negative 8 yards rushing. The Falcons had a nice day running the ball racking up 161 yards on 36 carries.

McPherson College 44 vs. Bethany College 17
McPherson College returned 3 interceptions for a touchdown as the Bethany College Swedes struggled to maintain possession of the ball. With the and a Friends University loss, the Bulldogs sealed up second place in the KCAC conference and have received an at-large bid to play in the NAIA Football Championship Series. Bulldog quarterback, Shane Mascarenas completed 18-of-33 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns. The Bethany College Swedes shutdown the Bulldogs rushing attack holding them to a season low 49 yards. Steven Baker led the Swedes passing attack throwing for 233 yards on 22-of-36 passing. DeWayne Autry had a nice day for the Swedes with a rushing and a passing touchdown.

Preview of the NAIA Football Championship Series

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the teams and pairings for the 2009 Football Championship Series. A total of 16 teams will play at eight first-round sites on Nov. 21. Ottawa University and McPherson College will both represent the KCAC.

Ottawa University will represent the KCAC as the automatic conference champion bid. The Braves will host Hastings College from Nebraska. The Braves are led by KCAC offensive Player of the year Ethan Haller, who threw for over 4000 yards and 38 touchdowns this season. Also leading the Braves high powered passing attack is the receiving duo of Clarence Anderson and Corey Shultz who each have 1314 yards and 17 and 8 touchdowns respectively. On the defensive side of the ball, the Braves will rely on leading tackler Fielding Brenner.

The McPherson College football team continues its' most successful season to date with an at-large selection into the 2009 NAIA Football Championship Series. The Bulldogs jumped three spots to No. 12 in the final Top 25 coaches Poll. The Bulldogs (9-1, 8-1 KCAC) will travel to Olathe, Kan., to take on No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers (9-1, 9-1). The Bulldogs are led by a powerful offensive attack, which includes a strong passing attack and consistent ground game. The McPherson offense currently ranks fifth nationally in scoring offense averaging 46.2 points per game.
