Montana's No. 1 player narrows list

The No. 1 player in the state of Montana has six schools left on his list.

"It is surreal," three-star athlete Matt Miller said. "Sometimes I want it to be over and live a normal life, but I always feel very thankful for the opportunities I have."

Miller and the 10-0 Helena (Mont.) Capital High Bruins are set to make a run at a fourth consecutive state title and while Miller is quick to talk about his team, right now the focus is on him.

"There are a lot of things I have to look at," Miller said. "Being comfortable at the school, the prestige of the program, and what kind of education you are going to get are all important factors.

"From there you can eliminate some schools and start building relationships with the places that may be the right fit."

It's not clear where the 6-4, 205-pounder will play in college - he plays multiple positions at Capital and is listed as an "athlete" in the RivalsHigh recruiting database - but many schools appear interested in trying to figure that out.

He's had nearly two dozens offers and admits narrowing it down has been tough.

"I have already been to Oregon State," Miller said. "I will go to Arizona State next, then Boise State."

But, he is quick to point out, those schools are not the final three.

"If I need to visit more schools I am still looking at Arkansas, North Carolina and Stanford," he added.

His coach, Pat Murphy, has high praise for his star player.

"Matt is a great athlete," Murphy said. "He can run like a deer, he can jump, he really has it all. We play him at safety, wide receiver, really just about anywhere."

Miller says maybe his best attribute is his time spent on film.

"I am a film junky," Miller said. "I breakdown film with the coaches at lunch and I have game film at my house that I just put on sometimes too."

Whether on the field or in the classroom Miller is a hard worker, carrying a 3.7 GPA as a senior and is prepared to go to college and succeed.

"Coach told us that hard work will get you want to go," Miller said.
