David Carter makes the most of his chances
Junior defensive lineman, David Carter is coming into his own as a football player. He is doing an outstanding job backing up Brian Price and is tied with Price and Akeem Ayers for the lead in sacks with two. He also has two tackles for loss to go with his six tackles on the year, but more importantly, he has been productive when UCLA's arguably best defender, Price, is taking a breather making a good defense that much better.
BruinBlitz.com and Carter had a quick talk after a recent practice.
BruinBlitz.com: David you are really playing well this season there doesn't appear to be a drop off when you are out there. I think you are tied for a lead or leading the team in sacks, is that correct?
BruinBlitz.com: Can you tell UCLA fans what you did in the offseason to prepare for this moment?
Carter: "In the offseason, I just did a lot of extra work. I came early and did workouts with the team and then later I would go workout with my girlfriend's dad, who is a professional trainer. I just worked out with him and he gave me some tricks of the trade and that helped me a lot and helped develop a lot of muscles I didn't even know were on the human body. I believe a lot of that is helping me out on the field and is giving me the advantage against the man lined up across from me.
"Mentally I have been just studying and in the books and just doing what I have to do mentally to prepare myself for the game, so I won't be what my coach )defensive line coach [db]Todd Howard calls in the fog of war, which is basically once you get out there you forget everything.
"Now I am just mentally ready, I am physically ready and more than prepared for this season and anything that anyone has to throw at me."
