Practice Insider: Trojans prep for opener
When they close their eyes, they can hear it. The can feel the crowd and hear "Conquest" echoing bouncing around the Coliseum.
It's almost here.
USC is about to play some football.
The experience of running out to play in front of a packed Coliseum can be overwhelming, particularly to the newest Trojans, and USC head coach Pete Carroll has put in plenty of time making sure that initial rush is manageable.
"We've been preparing for it for a long time. Last week was big for us to get them ready for that though, but there's nothing like it when it's game day. I just said to the team that it's like taking your little brother to the circus. It's a big deal to these guys. They're going to be excited, and we have to keep them clear thinking. Hopefully, it'll be something where they can learn from it. We don't want them to be wide-eyed the whole time they're here. We want them to be comfortable with the setting."
