Kapolei LB names a leader
Shaydon Akuna is an athlete who has seen his recruitment take off in recent weeks. After stellar performances at the All-Poly camps in Utah and Hawaii, the 6-foot-3, 210 pound linebacker from Kapolei (Haw.) Kapolei, who incidentally runs a 4.54 forty has now shown the world what West Coast schools have already known
Akuna is one of the best linebacker prospects in the country.
Rivals.com currently names him as one of the rising stars in the 2010 class, but Beaver coaches have seen his potential for months. He dominated during his junior year and has the speed and athleticism that fit the Oregon State linebacker mold perfectly.
Akuna has loose hips and moves extremely well in space. He also has a burst of speed and the ability to run sideline to sideline and good strength. Akuna has drawn comparisons to former Beaver and current Green Bay Packer, Nick Barnett in many regards. High praise as Barnett was a first round draft pick in the 2003 NFL Draft.
"Recruiting is very intense right now and it will be crazy after football season," Akuna said. "The Utah All-Poly Camp went well. I liked it (the mainland), the people were all pleasant."
