Phillips likes WR tradition at MSU

Rivals100 wide receiver prospect Shakim Phillips of Wayne (NJ) De Paul Catholic has over 20 scholarship offers, many from the top programs in the land, and he is still wide open about his college future.

But it won't be long before the 6-2, 191-pound Phillips narrows his recruitment, trimming his list of 20-some offers down to a more manageable handful.

"We're going to narrow it down soon. I think next week or something," the four-star rated Phillips told SpartanMag.com earlier this week. "It will be a top six, top five that I narrow it down to."

Phillips added of what he's looking for in his college decision: "Just the place, academics of the school, the depth chart, that's pretty much it, and the atmosphere."

Michigan State, one of Phillips' five Big Ten offers, is still in the picture, though Phillips said it's been a while since he's spoken to the MSU staff.

"Last time I talked to them is when I got offered. I haven't talked to them or anything (in a while)," Phillips said.

Phillips hopes to remedy his limited contact with MSU by reaching out to the Spartans in the near future, and that could happen before he narrows the field next week.
