Bama DE preparing for first season

Jess Lanier defensive end Emmanuel Omere is set for his first and final season of high school football.

But despite his lack of experience on the gridiron, the 6-foot-4, 227-pounder from Bessemer, Ala., is drawing plenty of interest from some of the top programs in the Southeast.

"I just started playing football this year," Omere said. "I played football last spring but I stopped. I didn't play any last fall. I think I'm going to stick to it this year."

Prior to this spring, Omere has been a standout on the basketball court for the Tigers leading the team averaging 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.

"I think that playing basketball has helped me out playing football," Omere said. "It's helped me out with my quickness."

Schools like Alabama, UAB, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Tennessee have all inquired about Omere this spring. Out of that impressive list, Omere feels that two schools may be on the verge of offering.
