Massive Bama tackle adds first offer

Chad Slade grew up in the heart of SEC country in Moody, Ala.

The massive 6-foot-6, 316-pound tackle has always wanted to be apart of the powerhouse conference so it is only fitting that his first offer comes from Mississippi State. Slade visited the Starkville campus last week and earned a scholarship offer in the process.

"(Mississippi State) offered me and really want me there," Slade said. "They officially offered me a full scholarship. I got that in the mail on Friday. It's real special because it's my first offer. I went to their camp and learned some new stuff, a lot of stuff I didn't know because I just moved over from defense last year."

Slade was one of three offensive linemen that got special attention from o-line coach John Hevesy. Darone Bailey was one of the others and both he and Slade left with verbal offers before the end of the day.

Slade enjoyed his time learning from Hevesy and the rest of the MSU coaching staff.

"(Hevesy) taught me some new stuff and he was pretty cool," Slade said. "I can see myself playing for him. I also got a chance to meet Coach (Dan) Mullen while I was over there. He seems pretty cool and down to earth. I like the coaching style with him being from Florida."

Slade admitted that he still had a lot to learn about the Bulldogs but planned to do plenty of research on them especially since they are the first ones to offer.
