Florida OT landing on the radar of big schools

The offers have been coming in for Tallahassee offensive lineman Cody Gibson since the beginning of his spring practice. Several top schools including South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Illinois has expressed interest in the six-foot-six offensive tackle from Lincoln High School.

Gibson has an early favorite in his recruiting, the South Carolina Gamecocks.

"Right now I am talking to the South Carolina coaches a lot and they are very interested in me," Gibson said. "I am also very interested in South Carolina and I am close to assistant coach Jay Graham."

Another school looking at Gibson is Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are recruiting his teammate quarterback Ryan White. Gibson thinks the Yellow Jackets are close to offering him and he thinks he might get an offer when he makes the trip up to Atlanta.

"Tech was really close to offering me, but they are waiting on my grades to come through. I have a 3.0 GPA so they should like that," he said.

Paul Johnson's offense and the style of play are two things Gibson likes a lot about the Yellow Jackets as well as the location.

"Tech is not too far from home which I like," he said. "They are great football team in the ACC and the offense they run is very physical for the offensive linemen which I like. Their linemen move around a lot and that is how I like to play."

"I am going to stay down here and not go to any camps right now," Gibson said. "In early August or late July I will take some unofficial visits and see where I stand then."

Gibson also commented on other schools of interest to him.

East Carolina: "My offensive line coach went to school there and graduated from there in 2005. I talked to the coaches and I will definitely take a visit."

Illinois: "I met with assistant coach Dave Disch and talked to him a bunch and they said they would love to have me come up."

Indiana: "Assistant coach Dennis Springer came down here and offered me on the spot."

Maryland: "Maryland offered me last Friday. Assistant coach Al Seamonson called me the other day and that is a great school and a great team."
