NC cornerback talks SU and favorites
Durham (NC) Southern Durham cornerback A.J. Marshall is one of the top cornerbacks on the east coast this recruiting season and he has the offer list to prove it. Marshall has offers from all over the country from the ACC, Big East, Conference USA, Pac 10, and SEC. Just over a month ago he received his second Big East offer from Syracuse.
"Syracuse offered me last month. I am not sure of the actual date."
Marshall, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds was not too familiar with the Orange at the time of the offer, but informational mail and his own research has changed that.
"I really did not know much about the football program. I was getting a lot of informational letters on them before they offered, so I had to do some research on them. I really knew about their basketball program, so I knew them more as a basketball school. They are a pretty decent football team and they are in the making right now, they are really rebuilding right now. When they offered though is when I really started looking into them and doing my research."
Now after a month of extra research what are his thoughts on the Orange?
"As a school I know that they have great academics and that is important when I go to college. The football team I did not know much about to start with. Now I am interested in getting up there and seeing what the environment is like. I know they play in a dome and I really want to see what that is like."
Since receiving his Syracuse offer the Orange coaches have been in touch and they told the three star prospect about why they want him at Syracuse.
"They told me that I have size and that I could come up there and be a four year starter. That stuck out to them and my size and play making ability that I already have. When I would get there I would really have nothing to work on except trying to improve on my craft and just play corner as hard as I can and continue to do what I do. "
Right now Marshall wants to visit Syracuse, but there are some other factors that come into play when planning for a visit.
"I am not sure when I will visit. The person that I travel with Anthony Creecy, I think he wants to get up there, but I am not sure yet. I will have to see how our plans are this summer and see how that would fit into our schedule."
With a bunch of offers in hand the North Carolina product does have a list of top schools.
"Right now I would have to say Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and Maryland has moved up my list."
The Orange did not make it into the top five list, but they are not that far off from being on the list.
"Syracuse would probably be about six or seven because I really have not been there. The coaching staff is pretty good from what I hear. Doug Marrone the head coach and my recruiting coordinator is a very great guy and he tries to teach us so much about Syracuse. He tells us to do our research and that we will really enjoy it. He also wants us to take a visit so we can see what it's like."
When it comes to making a decision Marshall is still not sure of exactly when he will pick a college destination.
"I am not sure. If I make an All-American game I will do it there, but I am not rushing. I will do it when the time feels right, at the latest signing day."
