Scrimmage Insider: Vertical game starting to click

Despite inclement weather in the Tallahassee area, the Seminole football team was able to complete a mini scrimmage inside Doak Campbell Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. And despite the wet field conditions, the offense established its dominance right from the outset.
With the offense backed up against its own endzone to start a drive with the goal of achieving a first down, both first and second team units were successful. On the second play, running back Jermaine Thomas found a huge hole in the line and raced nearly 80 yards. It looked like the sophomore back was headed for a touchdown but speedy cornerback Patrick Robinson was able to run him down at around the 15-yard line. The second team offense took the field on the next play and on second down Ty Jones made it past the first down marker for a 10-yard gain.
The defense stiffened up against the run during the regular portion of the scrimmage but had few answers for Christian Ponder and the passing game. Coming off an impressive performance on Monday's mini scrimmage, the rising junior signal-caller completed 6-of-9 attempts for over 100 yards. Considering that his three incompletions were a result of dropped passes, Ponder has excelled at a very high level for a second straight scrimmage.
