Wells eager to check out Ole Miss
Monticello (Lawrence County), Miss., four-star athlete Matthew Wells will continue his spring travels this weekend when he makes the trek north to Ole Miss to check out the Rebels' first scrimmage of the spring.
"I'm coming," Wells said Tuesday night. "If nothing else happens, I'm coming. I'm excited about it. I really don't know what's going to go on, but I'm ready to see what happens."
Wells, a 6-foot, 190-pound speedster who can play almost any skill position on the field, has offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi and Stanford.
"It's all about the same," Wells said. "I like all of them."
Wells has already been to Starkville to see Dan Mullen's Bulldogs work.
"It was real nice," Wells said. "I watched a practice and got to see how the coaches went through everything on the practice field. State wants me mostly at a spot where I can play. I tell them I want to play on the offensive side of the ball."
Ole Miss, meanwhile, seems to be recruiting Wells as a running back. Wells rushed for 1,352 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior despite sharing carries with four-star running back Kendrick Hardy, who signed with Southern Miss.
"I don't know how many seniors and juniors at running backs Ole Miss has," Wells said. "I'll be watching the running backs and the receivers and probably the safeties. I just want to help a team the best way I can, but I'd love to play running back or receiver."
Wells said that while he doesn't think he'll wait until National Signing Day to make a decision, no one should necessarily expect an early commitment.
"I think I'm going to wait a little bit," Wells said.
