Aggies make change at LB in Tuesday practice
Last season, Kyle Mangan was redshirting as a true freshman fullback but over the offseason things changed. Mangan was moved to middle linebacker, where he starred for Brenham High School. Tuesday proved that it wouldn't take long for Mangan to get into the mix at the position.
Tuesday, Mangan was playing with the first-team at middle linebacker in both the morning and afternoon sessions while presumed starter and senior Anthony Lewis moved to the second team after practicing with the first team during the first week of spring drills.
"We're trying to give (Lewis) the opportunity to take the position over and kind of moved him around with him and Kyle Mangan. We moved Kyle Mangan up because he had a good week of practice. Anthony didn't do anything wrong, but Kyle did a good job," said A&M head coach Mike Sherman. "Kyle is struggling a little bit learning it at this point so Kyle needs to learn it. Anthony will probably be back up there next week if Kyle doesn't take it and run with it, so we'll see what happens. Anthony has been around for a long time and he's anxious to get his opportunity to play I'm sure."
For the day, Sherman was pleased with the morning practice but had reservations about what he saw in the afternoon. Part he said was due to the fact that a number of players left early for a study group, including running back Cyrus Gray, and also due to working on the run game and play action in the afternoon.
But Sherman still wasn't happy with the afternoon session.
