Ole Miss offers Georgia running back

Juwan Thompson knows how Delino Deshields felt early this week when Ole Miss offered him a scholarship.

The College Park (Woodward Academy), Ga., teammates had similar experiences earlier this week when they were encouraged by their high school coach to give Ole Miss defensive line coach Terry Price a call.

"I wasn't expecting it," Thompson said of the Ole Miss scholarship offer Price extended to him on Monday. "I'd barely talked to Ole Miss, but (Price) told me he'd looked at my tape, liked it, showed it to (Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt) and they wanted to offer me. He said he wanted me to come visit in April. I'll have to find time. I really don't know too much about Ole Miss, but I'm very interested."

Thompson, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound running back, also has scholarship offers from Duke and Stanford. Georgia Tech and Central Florida have indicated that a scholarship offer is forthcoming.

"I'm looking for a great school with nice facilities, a nice weight room, nice dorms and an all-around great school," Thompson said.

Thompson said he's been to Alabama and Tennessee on unofficial visits. Of those two, he was very impressed by Alabama, going so far as to schedule a return trip for a camp in Tuscaloosa this summer.

Thompson, who sports a 3.2 core grade-point average, will take the SAT on May 2. He rushed 151 times for 1,212 yards and 15 touchdowns while catching two passes for 76 yards last season.

"I just want to get downhill quick as I can," said Thompson, noting that Woodward Academy operates the triple-option offense. "I want to give the linebacker a move and get to the next level. …It'll be a little different (to move to a pro-style offense). We tried to go to it a little last spring and I did very well. I'd be familiar with it."
