Lavey impressed with TCU
[db]Caleb Lavey[/db] is currenlty one of the most sought after players in the country. The 6'4" 210 pound linebacker prospect has teams from across the nation in pursuit in hopes of landing the talented Texan. With 16 offers currently on the table, Lavey has a tough task ahead of his as he attempts to narrow down his list of schools. PurpleMenace.Com caught up with Lavey after his visit to TCU's spring practice session Saturday and from all accounts, Lavey was blown away.
"It was awesome" said Lavey. "I really enjoyed it. I've seen TCU a lot but this was different. I couldn't have been more impressed."
With offers on the table from programs such as TCU, OU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and many more, Lavey has to figure out what the deciding factor will be in his recruitiment.
"I'm just looking for the right fit" said the Celina product. "I know at TCU that it just feels like home. The coaches are amazing and they make me feel wanted and comfortable. This visit really opened my eyes. I loved every minute of it and even though I've been on campus there a lot, it was just different this time. It was an amazing experience."
Though we're only in the month of March, the clock is ticking down on teams that are trying to make an impression on Lavey. The athletic linebacker prospect would like to make a decision before his senior year starts and it's now or never for programs attempting to catch the standout defender's eye. So did the Horned Frogs do anything during his visit to make him look a little closer at the program?
"Yes sir they did" he said. "The intensity was amazing and I really loved how Coach Patterson was the loudest coach out there. He's not like a lot of other head coaches that just stand off to the side, he's out there getting in people's faces if they mess up and you can tell he's very involved with the team. With him being a defensive coach and me being a linebacker, it couldn't be any better."
While that's high praise for Coach Patterson and his coaching style, Lavey continued on about what made the visit so special in his eyes.
"I'm not ready to decide yet but seeing TCU practice like that helped me out a lot" said Lavey. "I need to take all of my visits so that I can start to narrow it down but TCU has impressed me in every way and I have a better feel for them now. I liked what I saw from them on my other visits but this visit really impressed me."
Early indications were that Lavey would like to stay close to home but with offers pouring in from around the country, Lavey is giving every school an opportunity to make an impression.
"I'm considering out of state schools and in state schools" he said. "My dad went to Michigan so I know a lot about their program and it would be great to go there but at the same time, my dad understands that I have to make the decision that's best for me and that could be out of state or in state."
When mentioning to Lavey that it seems like every visit he's been on has been top notch, he had a response that I've come to expect from the talented prospect.
"They have all been great(visits)" said Lavey. "I've been so blessed that this many schools have shown me interest and for all of the opportunities that I've been given. It's been really fun and I'm very thankful for this experience."
While Lavey mentioned that he met the other two prospects(Reggie Wilson and Austin Woods) that were on campus Saturday, he said that he spent the majority of his time with Coach Patterson and Coach Tademy. Lavey mentioned that he had built a good relationship with Tademy and Patterson and that he felt very comfortable around them and felt at home on the TCU campus. Only time will tell if the Frogs will win out on the recruitment of Lavey but one thing is certain. Whoever ends up landing this Texas gem is getting a great player and an even better young man. Stay tuned to PurpleMenace.Com for the latest in Lavey's journey.
