On deck

Georgia wraps up the 2008-09 regular season with a Saturday afternoon contest against South Carolina. The Bulldogs arrive at this game with a 12-18 overall record, 3-12 in SEC play. Both teams are locked into their respective seedings at the SEC Tournament next week in Tampa: South Carolina as the East's No. 2 seed, Georgia as its No. 6 seed. The Bulldogs will play Thursday afternoon in Tampa at 3:15 against the West No. 3 seed: the winner of the Ole Miss-Miss. State game, which will be played in Oxford on Saturday.

Victory to savor

Most recently, the Bulldogs got their third win of the SEC season with a 90-85 decision over Kentucky three nights ago. In addition to a 30-point effort from Terrance Woodbury, two more numbers distinguish themselves from that game: Georgia's 68.8 percent shooting from 3-point range (11x16) and its 38-27 rebounding advantage against the Wildcats. The win was Georgia's third at Rupp Arena since 2002. … Today's game will be the 92nd all-time meeting between these two programs. Georgia leads the series 46-45. South Carolina won the first meeting this season by a 79-68 score in Columbia four weeks ago.

This and that

Georgia's win over Kentucky on Wednesday - the program's sixth win over the Cats in the past eight seasons - marked the second straight year the Bulldogs got their first SEC road win in their last chance... Searching for trends as the season reaches the homestretch. ...In the 10 games under Interim Coach Pete Herrmann, several themes for the Bulldogs have taken shape. … The emergence of freshman Dustin Ware as the Bulldogs' top point guard has been another storyline. Since Herrmann took over on Jan. 29, Ware has averaged 9.5 points, 4.4 assists and, perhaps most important, 30.1 minutes per game. … Since Jan. 29, walk-on Ricky McPhee has played in all 10 games, had 14 points in the win over Vanderbilt and is shooting 46 percent from 3-point range. … The diminished roles of Zac Swansey, Jeremy Price and Travis Leslie are another point to consider. Swansey and Price seen their minutes virtually halved since Jan. 29: Swansey from 24 minutes to 13; Price from 21 minutes to 11; Leslie, after watching his minutes drop from 18 to nine, is now sitting out the season's remainder to concentrate on his schoolwork. The Bulldogs defeated Vanderbilt and Kentucky using essentially a 7-man rotation.
