Aggies offer two-sport star
One of the best athletes in Texas is starting to figure out that football may be his thing. So are college coaches. Lancaster, Texas cornerback Tyler Stephenson is one of the best hurdlers in Texas if not the United States. However, after his third official scholarship offer has arrived, he is starting to realize that he may be one of the best cornerbacks in the state if not the country as well.
"Right now it seems like football is first and track is second," Stephenson said. "Track kind of slipped around the end of last year, this past football season."
Stephenson, who has a personal best time of 37.08 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles, is now getting going in his track season but still is focused on football as well. He is also entertaining new offers, most recently from Texas A&M.
"It's real good," Stephenson said of the new offer. "It's local. It's in Texas but I really don't have a problem with leaving Texas so it's real good. I kind of followed them this year because I know Texas A&M, they play a lot of freshmen so I think that's real good."
Stephenson has not yet attended any junior days and he hasn't been to the A&M campus yet but he hopes to go to a few junior days in the near future.
"I plan to go to Baylor on the 21st (of February) and Texas on the 28th," he said.
The Texas A&M offer was added to previous offers from North Carolina and Tulsa. Stephenson plans to compete in both football and track at the next level.
