Neuheisel's post season address - Part I

On Sunday UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel had his last teleconference of the 2008 season. He talked mostly about and answered questions concerning the future. It was obvious to those who watched UCLA football that a heavy dose of weight room work will be in order. It was even more obvious to the coaching staff. This is part one of a two part series.

Neuheisel: "I am disappointed that Saturday wasn't a victory, but I am looking forward to the future. We had a meeting with our players on Sunday to talk about how eager we all have to be about improving and one to do that is recruiting, which we are out and about doing that as we speak and the other way to do is through vigorous offseason program, which I am excited about beginning as soon as the players get back. So that's where we stand."

When you talk about the offseason program is this something that fans sometimes expect to happen the first spring. Is it something that takes longer than that?

Neuheisel: "You are not going to be a completed project in the course of one season as much as you can be in year two or three, but I do expect to see vast improvement by as early as next fall."

When you talk about vast improvement, in what avenues, is there anything in particular that you expect to see that in?

Neuheisel: "We have to be, if I'm just speaking off the cuff right now, I'd tell you it's at the point of contact. We have to be stronger at the point of contact on both sides of the ball.

"Guys like Brian Price, who are blessed with great raw strength, there's a guy who when he gets stronger is going to be a dominant player, but some of our guys on the edges and inside, just need to get stronger and that is certainly true with everybody on offense where inexperience is a huge factor or at least was, that won't be an excuse for next year because all these guys will have played now."
