Preston hearing from the Frogs
Dickinson, Texas offensive lineman Ed Preston has seen his stock rise in recent months and has the offers to show for it. However, the big 6-foot-4, 287-pounder is in the middle of helping his Gator team make a deep run in the Texas class 5A playoffs and hasn't spent much time with recruiting.
On the table for Preston are offers from Arizona State, Southern Miss, UTEP, and Stephen F. Austin. Others such as the #14 TCU Horned Frogs are continuing to show the guard prospect increased attention.
"TCU is showing a tremendous amount of interest," he said. "I think they might offer a little bit later, I'm still working on them, talking to them a lot."
Preston had indicated in previous reports that Arizona State and TCU were his top two schools, however the fast rising prospect says he doesn't have a for sure favorite at this point.
"I don't have a list of favorite schools," he said. "The number one thing I'm looking at is probably academics. I still have a lot of stuff to think about."
Coach Tademy is the TCU coach in charge of recruiting Preston, and according to him the Frogs are showing a lot of interest of late.
"They've come to my school, they've come to my games," Preston said. "Coach Tademy and I just talked a few hours ago actually, they're looking at me pretty hard. They're looking at me at guard, I play tackle right now."
Although he doesn't have a true favorite, Preston did say that TCU is among his top schools and has a lot to like about the program.
"They're somewhat of a top school," Preston said. "My uncle went there, John Marsh. It's a small school, it's only about 7,000 students. Coach Patterson is there, he's an outstanding coach. I think he's more of a defensive mindset coach and he lets someone else concentrate more on the offense but he is an outstanding coach and it's a very good program."
As stated earlier, Preston says he doesn't plan on diving more into recruiting until after his season is over. He does have an idea however on some of the schools he plans on visiting.
"I going to take visits after my senior season," he said. "I'm most likely going to visit Arizona State, Southern Miss, and possibly UTEP. There's still some other schools I'm thinking about possibly visiting."
Dickinson will face off against traditional powerhouse Katy this week in the third round of the state playoffs. Preston says for his team to win, they don't need to be swept away with the Tigers reputation.
"We want to beat them," Preston said. "What we have to do is just not be in awe of them because of their reputation and what they're known for. We just need to play them like a normal team."
