Croom talks 2009 recruiting class

Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom took a few minutes to discuss recruiting with the four reporters on hand after Thursday's practice.

With a less that stellar season thus far at 2-5, Croom's 2009 recruiting class ranks No. 21 in the country highlighted by five four-star recruits and 12 three-star prospects.

Check out what Croom had to say about the Bulldogs current recruiting status.

"The players are here, they see the game and they understand the effect that some of the losses of players have had on us and how close we are," Croom said. "Even the other night we had a chance to win the game. They look at the game and what is going on. They are very attuned to who is playing and who's not playing, those kind of things. The response has been very good. All the guys that I've talked to are very solid. To be honest with you, we've even had some more interest by some other people that have surprised us. The kids that we have developing here and if we can get this class in, that's the thing that really is speaking to me is that the kids still want to come here. So something is going right in one aspect of it. Our prospects are hanging in there with us. I'm really pleased with the development of our young kids. Looking at (Trevor) Stigers and guys like that are really starting to excite you for the future.

"We just talk and recruit and go right on. As time goes on, other schools will come in and try to distort different pictures. We had one today. A guy who is committed was checking because somebody had shown him an old recruiting list from last summer about all the guys we were recruiting at his position. I told him 'hey, that position is full. I told you when you committed that that position was closed out' and it is. That's one thing is that we are not going to lie to our prospects about what we are doing. If we are recruiting somebody else, I'll tell them. I usually tell them right from the start so they know. Those are the kinds of things that we get. So far everything has gone well."
