First scrimmage in the books
The Beavers culminated the first week of fall drills with a spirited practice, but all looked ready for their first day off since camp started. Although no officials were present, a full house of spectators were on hand to watch a short scrimmage as the team continued to make progress toward the season opener against Stanford on August 28th.
The defense dominated the day and Coach Riley was especially pleased with the pass coverage on the day. Today's theme was "finishing" and the head coach was happy with the general performance of the group.
The defense had some big hits during the scrimmage and during 7-on-7 drills. Al Afalava laid a big hit on Brady Camp early during the scrimmage period, while linebackers Casey Noack and Dennis Christopher also made some impressive plays. Keaton Kristick, Bryant Cornell, and Keith Pankey all saw action and were effective as well.
The stars however, as Riley alluded to, were in the secondary, where many players stood out for making big plays. Afalava had a good day and made some big hits throughout the day. Keenan Lewis and Cameron Collins both had interceptions while Brandon Hardin had a great pass break-up in the end zone.
