Lewis adds Big 12 offer among others

As a slightly undersized lineman at just under 6-foot-2, LaPlace (La.) East St. John offensive lineman Patrick Lewis didn't immediately get the offers that you might see from a player that has been All-State in Louisiana's biggest classification since his sophomore year. However, as the Spring evaluation period has revealed, coaches are beginning to be much less hesitant about Lewis' height.

Recently, Lewis' offer list was increased to six schools including his first BCS conference offer.

"I added a surprising one," Lewis said. "I knew it was coming but it will probably be a surprise to a lot of people. Texas A&M offered me. That's the Big 12 so that's a big one."

All it took to get the Aggies on board with the athletic four-star lineman was an in-person visit during the Spring.

"I knew they were interested when Coach Buddy Wyatt came down and they picked up my tape," he said. "He said he really liked it and they were going to show it to Coach Sherman. Coach Sherman said he liked it and they offered. I believe I'm going up there on the 20th of June on an unofficial visit."

Just like most kids growing up in the Pelican State, Lewis grew up an LSU fan but he definitely has a new found interest in the Aggies.

"Growing up I was really and LSU fan like a regular Louisiana person, like everybody else," he said. "I sat down and watched a couple of Texas A&M's games though. I watched the rivalry game against Texas."

Three other programs-Tulsa, Southern Miss and Arkansas State-have extended Lewis offers of late and USM in particular has Lewis interested.

"Southern Miss stood out because I know coach Frank Wilson came down to the school," he said. "Coach Dauterive showed him the film and he gave me his card and he said call me any time. He said he really would have offered earlier but he's the recruiting coordinator so he was out on the road and couldn't get the offer in the mail. I'm really interested in Southern Miss. I just want to learn more about all the schools that have actuatlly offered."

Along with his visit to A&M on June 20th, Lewis, who earned offensive line MVP honors at the Baton Rouge Nike Camp, will be heading to Louisiana Tech as well this summer.

"I believe I'm going to go to Louisiana Tech probably in July and I'm going to give them consideration because they were one of the first ones (to offer). I'm not putting any schools aside. I'm going to try to give everyone a chance."

While Lewis' recruitment continues to gain momentum the next program on deck may be SMU.

"SMU is definitely going to offer me," he said. "They called during the May evaluation and he told me to call coach Dauterive to get him my highlight tape as soon as possible."
