Spring Spotlight - Austin Long

It is that time again, and we are back on the road Monday through Friday to watch some of the top prospects in the country go through spring practice.

Top prospects make plays on Friday nights in the fall, but those plays happen because of hard work during the off-season. There is no more important time in football than spring practice, and we take you inside that time right here.

Prospect: Austin Long

High School: Briarcrest Christian - Memphis, TN

Class: 2009

Position: Offensive Tackle

Vitals: 6-5, 270-pounds

Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, FSU, Georgia, Tennessee, and more.

Favorites: Committed to Georgia

Colleges in Attendance: None

Practice Observations: You immediately see Long's length when he steps onto the football field. He has long arms, he is pushing 6-feet, 6-inches tall, and he has plenty of room to fill out his frame. He is a lean 270-pounds, so him playing at 300-pounds or a tad above at UGA will not be a problem. Three things jumped out during practice - they were feet, agility, and athleticism. He has exceptional feet and he plays very light. His agility and athleticism really showed when they lined Long up at defensive end for the first time and he ran right around the opposing tackle. He moves extremely well, he has long arms, and he is only going to get stronger, so Long is a strong candidate for a Rivals100 spot down the road. He needs to finish his blocks more consistently like he did last year on tape, but other than that, he had a very nice practice.

Coach's Comments: Major Wright says, "Austin is a great young man first of all and Georgia is getting a quality person. He works hard, he is humble, he listens well, and he has a bright future in front of him. I am happy to be here this year coaching Austin."

Who's Next? Tampa (FL) Rivals100 quarterback Aaron Murray of Plant High School. The Elite 11 QB will show leadership, athleticism, and a very accurate arm in this feature.

Spring Spotlight will run Monday through Friday through the rest of May and into the month of June. We will be a lot of top prospects in Georgia, but we will also visit Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina as well.
