Texas receiver likes Colorado, Texas Tech

Colorado hadn't been mentioned as a school of interest for Jarrod Darden.

But the 6-foot-5, 210-pound wide receiver from Keller (Texas) Central took an unofficial visit to Colorado this past weekend and now the Buffaloes are in his top two.

"I went to Colorado to watch their spring game on Saturday," he said. "It was fun. It was my first time there. I didn't really know what to expect going into the trip.

"I liked the coaches and I enjoyed talking with some of the players while I was at Colorado. I also got to hang out with Darrell Scott, who was there visiting. It seemed really nice out there. I like the way the offense works. I like what they are doing with the program."

Wide receivers coach Eric Kiesau is responsible for Darden's recruitment from the Buffaloes' staff.

"Coach Kiesau said they are interested in me because they don't have many big receivers," he explained. "He said I would fit into their program well."

Colorado extended an offer to Darden while he was in Boulder this past weekend. He previously held offers from Texas Tech, North Carolina, Minnesota, Houston and Rice. Purdue and Oklahoma State have also shown early interest.

Darden visited Texas Tech unofficially in early April.

"[My trip to Texas Tech] was really fun," he told RedRaiderSports.com, the Texas Tech affiliate on Rivals.com. "I really like their offense and it was great to watch them run in it in a practice setting and get to watch how the coaches coached and everything. My step-dad and I really enjoyed it all from start to finish."

Darden currently lists Colorado and Texas Tech as his recruiting favorites.

A first-team all-district selection last fall as a junior, Darden hauled in 46 passes for 739 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"I think I have good ball skills, my route running is pretty good," he said. "I have good jumping ability. I know how to catch the ball in traffic. So I know when the ball is up in the air, I know I'm going to get it. I'm not going to let anyone else get it."

Darden plans to attend the NIKE Training Camp at TCU this coming weekend.

In the classroom, Darden is an excellent student. He currently maintains a 3.8 GPA.
