Final Days of Spring
USC kicks off its final week of spring football with just three practices left before Saturday's scrimmage finale, the Trojan Huddle. Camp started as a quarterback race, but several other stories have emerged, from long snapping woes to Rojo in a starring role to Joe McKnight's dropped class.
Sure, having a longtime long snapper like Will Collins graduate is concerning, especially considering he handled both punt and field goal snapping for the past four seasons. But no one expected that Carroll would be mentioning long snapping to the media on a daily basis for the first week and a half of spring football.
Collins actually missed last spring due to knee surgery, giving the Trojans their first taste of life after Collins. Several players tried out at the position, but no one put the ball on the money for the kickers like the former walk-on could.
Tight end Cooper Stephenson got a few repetitions last season at snapper, realizing the void Collins would leave after his graduation.
Stephenson had a bit of a rocky start, but eventually emerged as the top snapper for both punting and field goals.
