Five offers already for Plano East star
The recruiting process has taken off for Plano East running back Toben Opurum and it doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. Already, the big powerful back has five official offers with more possibly waiting in the wings. So far, Opurum is just hanging on for the ride.
"It's been pretty hectic but it's been exciting to be a part of," Opurum said of the process. "Just having to call coaches and answering emails every now and then keeps you busy. Right now I've got offers from Purdue, Nebraska, Wake Forest, Tulsa and Kansas and I think Texas A&M, Minnesota and Northwestern offers are on the way."
At this point, Kansas and Purdue are the two schools that stick out to Opurum among his offers but he is keeping his options wide open.
"I'm really open to what there is out there for me," he said. "I'm not really picky right now. Nebraska I know they're looking for a back my size to help their offense and I'd be completely into doing that. Tulsa, I know they had the No. 1 offense in the country last season. I know people up at Purdue because my best friend's brother Jared Crank is probably going to be a starter there next year."
To date, only one school has been lucky enough to get Opurum on campus.
"I went to the Texas A&M Junior Day but I've just had so many things to do, I haven't had time for much," he said.
It is easy to see why college's are interested in the talented running back. At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Opurum has great size and strength but he is more than just a power back.
"My strength is just my versatility," he said. "I'm going to be playing a little bit of defense too. I'm good at catching the ball out of the backfield and hitting the whole with power. I've gotten a lot bigger since last season so I just want to maintain my speed and agility."
