Auburn holds early lead for top in-state CB
With six major offers already in hand, Mobile (Ala.) Davidson cornerback Gerald West is clearly on tap to be one of the state of Alabama's best and most heavily recruited prospects.
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound West, who runs a 4.4 40-yards dash, holds offers from Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, LSU, Arkansas and Clemson.
"Our coaches sent film off to every team in the nation," said West. "It means a lot to have all this offers but I try not to let it go to my head. I look at it like a motivation."
West was in Auburn a week and a half ago for a Junior Day.
"It went pretty good," said West. "They gave us a tour of the campus, the stadium and the dorms. It was an excellent experience to go out and watch them practice for a couple of hours."
One of the highlights for West was meeting AU defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads and sitting in on a pre-practice defensive back meeting.
"He gave them a heads up on how practice was going to go that way," said West. "I think Rhoads is a pretty good coach. It sounds like he really knows the game and what it's all about. That's the kind of coach I like.
"They like to run a lot of different coverages. When I looked at all their players, they were really good, but I thought I had the potential to come in and play with them."
West also met with AU head coach Tommy Tuberville.
