Howell piling up offers

San Antonio(TX)Warren defensive tackle Calvin Howell is one of the fastest rising prospects from the 2009 class in recent weeks. At this rate, the talented playmaker should have offers in the double digits by the end of the month.

So far the 6-foot-4, 275-pounder has offers from TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and most recently Texas Tech. Others such as Texas are on the verge of extending an offer.

"I'm going to the Texas junior day this weekend," he said. "They've come down to my school and I've been talking to them this week. I think they may offer when I go down there, matter of fact they said they'll probably offer."

Although Texas has made an impression on Howell this week, he was quick to point out what teams are standing out to him the most right now.

"TCU and Tech are the top programs for me right now," Howell said of his favorites. "I really can't complete a top five right now but those two schools are the best to me right now. They're both really good programs that have good coaches that are good people."

Howell says he's already formed a strong relationship with Coach Glasgow from the TCU staff and likes what the Frogs have to offer.

"I really like him," he said. "He's just a good man. He's comes up to the school and is always just checking up with me and seeing how my academics are. He emails my mom and dad just to see how we're doing and checking on me.

"I like the tradition they have and how they do things, they're a real good program. I'm going to be up there for the Nike Camp and I'll probably go up there for a summer camp."
