Lipscomb has an early leader
With a soft Southern drawl and Big Easy attitude, Cypress Ridge (Texas) running back Hasan Lipscomb has been through a lot since the big storm.
"After Hurricane Katrina, we didn't know where we would end up," he said. We went east and then we came to Houston. To be honest, I was scared to come to Houston. I knew they had great high school football and I didn't know how I would fit in.
"When I got to Cy Ridge I was the fourth running back and didn't start until the sixth game of my sophomore season," he said.
He has fit in just fine ever since and he makes offensive coordinators fear when he's on the field. The 5-foot-10 running back rushed for 1,625 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior and is gaining BCS attention.
The national-champion LSU Tigers are first to officially offer Lipscomb, which will be the first of many.
"I've been a Tiger ever since I was small growing up in New Orleans," he said. "I went to O.P. Walker High School were Craig (Buster) Davis went. We all looked up to him."
While LSU seems to be his early favorite, Oklahoma, Iowa and Texas A&M have tweaked his interest.
"I'm really looking at the LSU offer," he said. "I don't want the craziness in the recruiting process, but I want to make the right decision. I'll be hitting A&M's and LSU's junior day in the next couple of weeks."
For now, Lipcomb is preparing for the upcoming track season and is going through and important off season.
"I'm not getting greedy," he said. "I just want to do anything to make our team better right now. As for the recruiting process, I'll just take it a day at a time."
