Wegher visits Iowa junior day

After rushing for 2,334 yards and 34 touchdowns as a junior, Sioux City Heelan running back Brandon Wegher is clearly one of the top in-state prospects in the Class of 2009. This past weekend, the 5-foot-11, 187-pound Wegher made a visit to Iowa City to attend Iowa's first junior day of the year.

Wegher, who has earned first team all-state honors each of the past two years, said he especially enjoyed the basketball game as the recruits and coaches sat in the front row to watch the Hawkeyes upset nationally ranked Michigan State.

Making the trip to Iowa City with the running back was his father and younger brother, Cole, who is a sophomore at Heelan. With a scholarship offer from Iowa State already in hand, the family talked to the Iowa coaching staff about their current thought process.

Beyond the two in-state schools, Wegher also holds a scholarship offer from South Dakota State and is also hearing from a number of Division I programs throughout the country, including Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, and others.

Next up for Wegher is a visit to Kansas' junior day on February 16. Currently, he plans to make his college decision sometime before his senior year.
