Video: Tyler Hoover senior highlights
When Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio gained the commitment of Novi defensive end Tyler Hoover he earned his high profile head-to-head recruiting victory over Michigan as head coach of the Spartans.
Hoover chose Michigan State over offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, and West Virginia. At that time Hoover was ranked in the national Top250 and considered one of the nation's premier defensive end prospects.
Since that time, Hoover has been downgraded from a four-star to a three-star by Rivals.com recruiting analysts. But Hoover's slide in the rankings had nothing to with production on the field.
As a senior, the athletic 6-foot-7, 265-pound defensive end re-wrote the defensive record books at Novi. Hoover is the Novi career record holder in tackles, sacks, fumble recoveries, and tackles for loss.
Hoover recorded 101 total tackles while guiding his team to a Kensington Valley Conference championship and a playoff run that ended in the district title game. Hoover recorded 51 solo tackles as a defensive end and 50 more assisted tackles.
An outstanding pass-rusher, Hoover recorded 13 sacks despite facing double and triple teams against nearly every opponent. The future Spartan deflected 4 passes and forced 4 fumbles, including 3 in one game against KVC foe Pinckney. Hoover finished with 25 tackles for loss.
Hoover also played a lot of snaps on offense at the offensive tackle position. He dominated opponents on a consistent basis and was excellent in his ability to pull.
Hoover will play in the Offense Defense All-Star Game
