NU Notes: Holt talks about his friendship with Freeman
Nebraska wide receiver Menelik Holt met Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman for the first time at the NU Red-White game back in 2005.
Holt and Freeman immediately hit it off at the spring game, and formed a bond so strong, that they one day hoped to play together. The two eventually committed to Nebraska on a three-way call less than two months later, but their relationship all changed when Freeman flipped his commit and signed with KSU in December of 2005.
Holt said he was disappointed at the time Freeman made the switch, but he never took it personal enough to the point where he held a grudge against him.
"It was close to his home, so I can understand why he did it," Holt said. "By no means was I like 'if Josh doesn't come, then I'm not coming.' I just wanted to come anyway with or without him. I think he wanted to make a big deal out of it by announcing it like he did."
In fact, Holt said he and Freeman still talk every now and then through the Internet.
"I'll send him a message on Myspace or Facebook to see how's he's doing," Holt said. "He always says he's doing great, but it's kind of different because we are both doing our own things."
