GoPowercat Q&A: Chris Carney

Not many people expected sophomore safety Chris Carney to become a key player for the Kansas State's secondary this season, but as the season enters a key phase for the Wildcats, Carney has become an intricate part of Coach Ron Prince's defense. Carney leads the team in interceptions in 2007, and has fans excited about his future in Manhattan. GoPowercat.com had the chance to talk to rising star about his emergence as a key player, the possibility of replacing Marcus Watts next season and a variety of other topics during an exclusive interview on Monday.

The first half of 2007 has been good to you. What is it that allowed you to announce your presence so loudly this season?
The coaches have allowed that by giving me the opportunity to get out there and show what I got. The coaches put me a good position to do everything that I've been doing lately.

Did they come to you and tell you that they expected big things from you this year?
Not exactly. I knew on my own. Coming into my sophomore year, I knew this was the time that I really needed to start standing out. I only played in three games last year, and I knew if I got my opportunity, I was going to have to take it.
