Orange win, but problems mount

Yes the Orange won on Saturday, 20-12 over the Buffalo Bulls in the Dome. But it was a win in the loosest sense of the word. The Orange were still plagued by problems that have cost them games in the past, the only difference was the quality of the opponent they were facing.

Greg Robinson's team picked up a badly needed win to improve to 2-6 on the season heading into a bye week next weekend but it wasn't pretty. The best thing that can be said about this game is that it was not another loss. Here are five reasons Syracuse fans shouldn't get too excited about Saturday's win.

It's Buffalo

Yes the Bulls are an improving program under Head Coach Turner Gill but they're still Buffalo. The Orange had beaten the Bulls by a combined score of 131-24 in their last three meetings, including a 63-7 romp in the Dome in 2000. The Bulls are now 3-5 and have lost games to both Baylor and Ball State.

Scraping out an eight point victory over a team of this caliber at home is nothing to write home about. A decisive win was the only option for the Orange to maintain some dignity this weekend and they failed to accomplish that.

Still, Greg Robinson was optimistic about the win.
